HAPPINESS; A WAY OF LIFE?
We have often heard that “HAPPINESS is not destination rather it is way of life” but we tend to forget this in everyday life.
Since 1990 a whole branch of psychology (positive psychology) is dedicated to pinning down and propagating what HAPPINESS is. More than just positive mood it’s a state of wellbeing that circumscribe living a quality life. Researches have shown that it is not bouncing from one joy to other. Genes, life circumstances, achievements, economic status, social support are various determinants of happiness. Though it has subjective meaning i.e. what might be happiness for one isn’t necessarily happiness for others. Individual’s way of thinking and expressing also contributes to it. Money is important for happiness as it buys freedom from worrying about the basics in life.
Researches confirm that much of happy feelings is in one’s own control. Psychologists suggest cheerfulness, compassion, offering gratitude help in achieving happy life..
Regularly indulging in activities such as warm baths, sparing time for hobbies (such as dancing, singing, gardening, reading), engaging oneself in acts of kindness like helping a strangers, spending time with those below 7 and above 70 years of age, find time to hang out with friends and family.
Why be happy? Because those of us who see the world as a good place actually will enjoy the present moment more fully and have a few more moments in life to enjoy than the Debby Downers (people who tend to find faults in everything) around us.
