It's 11 PM, it's your time to go to bed. You are in comfortable clothes feeling a little dizzy, sleep is coming. You switch off the lights, take the pillow, cover yourself with a blanket (summer/winter kind) and close your eyes...... Woah sleep is gone? Does this happen too often? The more you want to sleep, the more it becomes difficult. The struggle goes for hours, 11 PM becomes 2 AM and the struggle becomes a frustration. This battle continues for night after night. This little or no sleep takes a heavy toll on the following day at work. Lack of concentration, loss of focus, slow reflexes and weak memory makes your day an unproductive.
Most of us have faced such situations in our lives and in fact, some of us struggle with this on daily basis. Sleeping pills are not an ideal solution either. So what else can be done?
One best solution that worked for me was a small self-hypnosis session. You can still use this trick even If you don't know self-hypnosis. How is it done? It's simple when you are struggling to get some sleep in the middle of the night then perform these simple steps:
1. Close your eyes (even if you don't feel like)
2. Take long breaths (count to 10 then breathe normally)
3. Concentrate on flow of air filling your lungs and your abs moving up & down
4. Imagine your body getting relaxed with this wave of relaxation starting from your head then to your eyes, ears, lips, and cheeks
5. Then it comes to your neck, throat, shoulders, and arms
6. Soon to your chest, torso, and abdominal
7. Finally, this wave will enter in your legs, quadriceps, knees, calves, toes, and heels
Soon...sleep will take you over in no time
Usually, I fell asleep at step 5 or 6. If you still find it difficult to conduct all these steps. I recommend you an audio recorded hypnosis session which you can easily find in a mobile app named "REDO Life", you can download any session of your interest and every session is an excellent source of fighting the sleeplessness or insomnia.
